Official punished for letting death-row inmates escape

The Supreme People's Procuracy also decided to prosecute several employees and guards at the centre for their irresponsibility that led to the escape.
On September 10, Le Van Tho, 37, from Hai Duong Province and Nguyen Van Tinh, 28, from Hanoi’s Quoc Oai District, escaped from the T16 Detention Centre after digging a hole in the wall over several months.
Tho was sentenced to the death in May for dealing in drugs, murder, and theft. Tinh received the death for his involvement in a large drugs ring. More than 300 policemen took part in a manhunt.

Nguyen Van Tinh is brought back to T16 Detention Centre on September 17.
Tho was arrested in Hai Duong Province on September 16 and Tinh was caught while hiding in the forest in Hoa Binh Province the next day.
