A tourist boat suddenly sank while anchored at Tuan Chau International Port in Ha Long City on Wednesday morning.

A tourist boat sinks while anchored at Tuan Chau International Port on October 18.

The incident occurred at 5am when the 48-seated vessel was anchored at the port.

People witnessed the incident said that they noticed water leaking into the engine room and then quickly spreading into the cabin. The boat was leaning and then quickly sank. Luckily there were no passengers and crew-members on board at the time.

Chairman of Quang Ninh Province People's Committee, Nguyen Duc Long, said that they have sent a team to investigate the incident and asked for tighter supervision on all tourist boats operating on Ha Long Bay to ensure safety.

This is not the first boat to have sunk while berthed at Tuan Chau Port. The same incident happened to the Hai Au 68 Vessel in March.

Three other incidents were also reported from March to May last year. According to some crew members, the water level can be several metres lower when the tide falls so if the crew members do not leave enough of a line to the anchor, the boats can capsize.
