The Danang Tourism Department has just announced a ban on tourism and transport activities on the Son Tra Peninsula during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings held in the city from November 2-11.

Hotels and travel agencies are not allowed to take tourists to Son Tra from October 30 until the end of the summit on November 12, while transportation and construction work will also be halted to ensure security for the APEC Summit meetings to be held on the peninsula, said the department at a meeting with local tourism companies on October 20.

Speaking with representatives from nearly 300 companies providing tourism and hotel services attending the meeting, deputy director of Danang Tourism Department, Tran Chi Cuong, stressed the need to strictly follow regulations to ensure safety for APEC delegates.

"Transport agencies are not allowed to disclose information relating to the places of stay, schedule, food menus, and images of the APEC delegates," Cuong said.

The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which is the most important event of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017, is hosting the leaders of 21 APEC member economies, together with around 10,000 domestic and international delegates, including leaders of leading regional and international groups and representatives from prestigious international organisations.

This year marks the second time Vietnam has hosted the APEC Year after the first in 2006.
