Ho Thi Thuy Lieu in Tho Loc Bac Village, Tinh Ha Commune, said her family received a 10-kilogramme bag of rice on the afternoon of November 19 afternoon. After cooking the rice, she discovered some strange problems. She tried setting fire on the rice and found it burnt in a strange way.

The rice burnt in a strange way

On November 23, Tran Van Thach, vice party secretary of Tinh Ha Commune, came to Lieu’s family to test the rice again along with the rice planted by local farmers.

The two kinds of rice were tested in the same way but had different results. 

The donated rice quickly caught fire after being toasted. But the rice planted by local farmers blackened but did not burn for the same amount of time.

The bag of rice lacked any information about the brand, origin and the expiration date.

According to Thach, the bag is among the rice donated by a local agency for around 50 flood-affected households following the call from the commune Fatherland Front after the Storm Damrey.

“We have reported local authorities of the problem and asked to recall the rice donated to the households for testing,” Thach added.
