Hanoi officials oppose ban on Temple of Literature parking lot
>> Temple of Literature forced to close parking lot The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports have sent official documents asking the local people's committee to reopen the parking lot inside the Temple of Literature.
According to the Department of Culture and Sports, the Culture and Science Centre is financially independent. It has held many cultural and research activities, preserved the temple and served millions of visitors each year to promote Hanoi’s tourism. It needs a parking area for the staff, guests and visitors. However, there are no parking areas nearby so it used a part of the garden as a parking lot.
Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports then proposed to set up a master plan for the temple that includes a parking lot and was approved by the prime minister.
Director of Department of Culture and Sport To Van Dong is seeking permission to continue the operation of the parking area while the master plan is being reviewed. Without a parking lot, everyone who visits or works at the temple will be affected.
In the past weekend, visitors to the site were surprised at the closed parking area. They had to park their vehicles on the pavements or accept overcharging at makeshift parking lots.
