The recent achievements of Vietnam’s U23 squad have made a strong impression on international friends, and the FIFA President is particularly enthused. The front page of FIFA’s website ran an article in January praising the development of Vietnam’s U23 squad under the leadership of chief coach Park Hang Seo.

Last year, six Vietnamese teams entered the final rounds of regional tournaments and Vietnam’s U23 football team surpassed expectations to finish as the runner-up at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship.

Gianni Infantino holds Swiss and Italian dual nationality. He was elected as FIFA president during the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress on February 26, 2016.

This is his first visit to Vietnam as FIFA President. In 2008, former FIFA president Sepp Blatter visited Vietnam and cut the ribbon to open an artificial turf football stadium.
