The Hanoi Department of Transport has proposed municipal authorities to officially ban taxi and cars under nine seats and operating as paid passenger transport vehicles, including Uber and Grab, to operate on 11 streets.

The proposal was made after the pilot ban on these vehicles on a number of streets in Hanoi over the past month apparently proved positive in reducing traffic jams.

Under the proposal, contract cars of below nine seats and operating as paid passenger transport vehicles, including Uber and Grab will be prohibited on both directions of Giang Vo, Lang Ha and Le Van Luong streets and a section on Truong Chinh street from Vuong Thua Vu to Ton That Tung streets from 6 am to 9 am and from 4:30 pm to 7 pm.

Grab and Uber vehicles will be not allowed to go into Kham Thien Street in the direction from Le Duan to O Cho Dua streets, except for weekends and holidays.

Streets which totally ban these vehicles around the lock are Phu Doan Street in the direction from Trang Thi to Hang Bong streets. The vehicles are banned on Cau Giay-Xuan Thuy streets in both directions.

The vehicles are also not permitted to go into Chuong Duong Bridge in the direction from Nguyen Van Cu to Tran Nhat Duat streets from 6 am-9 am, except for holidays and weekend.

Hang Bai Street, the section from Tran Hung Dao to Ly Thuong Kiet, will prohibit the vehicles from 7 pm to 12 pm, except for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
