 >>  Regulations flouted as unlicensed walkway built in Trang An Complex
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have asked to remove the illegal construction at the UNESCO heritage site of Trang An in Ninh Binh Province.

Vice Inspector of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Pham Xuan Phuc

During a press conference on March 6, ministry vice inspector Pham Xuan Phuc said that after being informed about the walkway, they had sent an inspection team to work with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Phuc confirmed that Trang An Tourism Company had violated the law on heritage.

"After Trang An was recognised as UNESCO world heritage site, Ninh Binh Province experienced rapid tourism development. In 2017, it received seven million tourists, three times higher than previously. The ministry and Ninh Binh provincial authorities have implemented various measures to protect the site," he said.

Ninh Binh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Hoa Lu District People's Committee have both asked Trang An Tourism Company to remove the construction and restore the environment to no avail.

"We asked the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to work with related agencies to quickly remove this walkway. We also asked Hoa Lu District People's Committee to strictly deal with this case and co-operate to remove the walkway. They will submit reports to provincial authorities as soon as possible," Phuc said.

Hoa Lu Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Cuc admitted to lax management.

According to Phuc, Trang An Tourism Company also committed other violations such as using unlicensed tour guides, untrained boat operators and issuing unlicensed promotional DVDs. They even put up a stone stele to introduce Cai Ha Mountain area as ‘Ancient’ Trang An which is complete fiction.

The authorities also discovered a cabinet full of antique items from the Dinh and Le dynasties at the house of Nguyen Van Son, director of Trang An Tourism Company. However, he couldn't provide certificates of authenticity for the items.

Phuc has asked local authorities to halt operation of Trang An Tourism Company. He went on to say that according to the law on heritage, Son would be fined from VND30m (USD1,300) to VND40m. Organisations face fines of VND80m for such violations.
