A state funeral will be held on March 20-21 for former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, who passed away on March 17.



Leading Vietnamese politicians paid tribute to former PM Phan Van Khai at his funeral on March 20

The tribute-paying and memorial ceremonies for the former started at 8 am on March 20 at Thong Nhat Conference Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and at the International Convention Centre - 11 Le Hong Phong Street in Hanoi and will last by the end of March 21.



On March 20 and 21, all State offices and public facilities will fly the national flag at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be stopped.

The ceremonies will be followed by a memorial service at the hall at 7:30 am on March 22. The burial ceremony is scheduled at 11:00 am the same day in his hometown – Tan Thong Hoi commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City.

Former Politburo member and former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai passed away at 1:30 on March 17 at his hometown in Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City, aged 85.

As one of the high-ranking leaders, PM Khai was involved in developing the institutions during the Doi Moi Renewal policy period and greater international integration.

During his nearly two working terms, key laws in the first phase of the renewal and door-opening process were implemented.

PM Khai was presented with the Golden Star Order and the 55-year party membership badge in 2014, in recognition of his dedication to the country.
