Tickets for the first metro lines in Hanoi are unsurprisingly expected to be between 30-37% higher than for public buses.

The Department of Transport has been asked to set up the prices for Cat Linh-Ha Dong Metro Line and submit reports by September. Hanoi Railway Company, the project's investor, said they had conducted a survey with 1,500 people living near the metro line about ticket prices.

The majority agree to pay higher fares for the metro line which will be 30-37% higher than bus fare and the monthly fare is also 15-20% higher. 93% expressed a desire to be able to use the metro soon.

The metro pass will be sold at the stations or automated machines. It can also be used for regular and rapid bus transit.

Vu Hong Truong, director of Hanoi Railway Company, said they had hired 681 employees and sent 190 to train in China. However, 10 have taken their compulsory military service so they are hiring new employees.

The Department of Transport is carrying out research to connect bus routes with the metro line.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong Metro Line will have a three to six-month test run starting from September 2.

Current bus tickets cost VND7,000 (31 US cents) to VND9,000. A monthly bus pass for students costs VND55,000, while other full-priced passes cost up to VND200,000.
