The project invested by Vietnam Trading Engineering Construction Joint Stock Corporation is located at My An and My Tho communes in Phu My District.

People gathered to protest the wind power project in Phu My District on April 20

On the morning of April 18, hundreds of local people rushed into the place where the investor was installing wind observing equipment to protest against the project implementation.

The police even had to detain 14 people who used soil, sand and tree branches to attack them.

On the morning of April 20, around 500 people came to the headquarters of My Tho Commune People’s Committee to continue their opposition and also urged local authorities to release the detained people.

A representative from Phu My District said that the investor insisted that it would not harm the environment during the project’s implementation; however, people still continued their protest.

Local authorities have also had a meeting with thousands of people to explain the project. Most of the people supported the project, while, many others have still doubted it, fearing that this would be a chance for the investor to exploit titanium in the locality.
