Ha Giang Province’s proposal to build administrative centre turned down

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has rejected the northern province of Ha Giang’s proposal to build a new administrative centre.

Under the proposal sent to the government, the province proposes to build a new administrative centre for provincial agencies. The province has asked the government for part of financial support for the project.

According to the province, offices for local agencies, which were built in the 1990-1991 period, were scattered throughout different wards. Many of the offices have deteriorated.

The recommended project includes two buildings covering a total area of 30,000 square metres. Each building has twelve floors. The centre will have offices for all agencies and departments of the province.

The project has a total investment of VND700 billion (USD31.8 million).

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has asked the the province to clarify the capital source for the implementation of the project. The province has also been required to re-consider the necessity of the project.

According to the ministry, VND8.8 trillion (USD400 million) of the state budget for the 2016-2020 period has been allocated to Ha Giang Province. So, the government will provide no further capital assistance from the state budget to the province at this phase.
