Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tung Van of Hanoi Police Department speaks at the press meeting

Speaking at a press conference on June 12, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tung Van of Hanoi Police Department said that although the NA had decided to delay the vote for the draft law on special economic units, some protestors had gathered at the Ly Thai To Park on June 10 to oppose the bill.

"We sent a team to persuade the people to stop the protest and dissolved the crowd," Van said. "Some people who were suspected to have organised the protest were invited to the police station and given fines."

The official added that in the coming time, Hanoi Police will focus on fighting against illegal demonstration and protests which are led by anti-state groups who take advantages of sensitive politic and social issues to call on people to follow them.
