 >>  Widespread rains forecasted as Storm Son Tinh weakens

Up to 35 of forty people in the central province of Nghe An who went into forests to pick bamboo are missing in heavy weather.

According to authorities from Chau Binh Commune, people were visiting the forest right before Storm Son Tinh made landfall in the central region of Vietnam over a week ago.

Heavy rains in Quy Chau District and many other localities in the central region have isolated many areas.

To date, just five people have returned home, while relatives of 35 others have failed to make contact with their family members.

Local authorities have sent rescue force to seek them, but no traces have been found.

Son Tinh Storm has weakened into a tropical depression. However, many localities in the northern and central region of Vietnam are forecasted to face torrential rains in the days to come.
