Phuong said 96% of the project had been ready, 80% of the equipment had been installed and they were rushing to complete the rest. In accordance with the directives from the Ministry of Transport, the stations and metro line will be provided electricity within this month.

"We've checked the signals and setting up the timetable for the service. We are testing other equipment," Phuong said.

The Chinese contractor is also testing the equipment and their employees arrived in Vietnam for the trial run. About 681 Vietnamese employees with 30 managers will also participate.

Vu Hong Truong, director of Hanoi Railway Company, said, "The line is 13.1km long with 12 stations."

According to a survey conducted by the Hanoi Railway Company, 98% of people knew about the line and 95% said they would try out the new train. They also accepted the higher ticket prices which will be 33-35% higher than bus fares.

"The service is subsided by the government. The ticket prices are higher than bus fares but it must still be acceptable to encourage people to use public transport. A lot of people said they wanted to buy a monthly pass," Truong said.

Ngo Manh Tuan, deputy head of Hanoi Department of Transport, said they had submitted the draft regulations about operations to the Hanoi People's Committee on July 31 and expected it to be approved this month.
