President meets Vietnamese chief representatives overseas

President Tran Dai Quang has asked heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to continue renewing their ways of thinking in terms of foreign affairs and issues on national development in the new context.

At a meeting with the Vietnamese diplomats on the sidelines of the 30th Diplomatic Conference in Hanoi on August 14, President Quang urged the diplomatic sector and the chief representatives to pay greater attention to carrying out orientations and tasks set out at the 30th Diplomatic Conference.


The diplomats were asked to fully grasp the Party and State’s unwavering policy of being a friend, trustworthy partner, and responsible member of the international community.

They need to introduce initiatives at multilateral, regional, and international forums in order to highlight Vietnam as a responsible member and show its international standing. One of the key tasks for the chief representatives this year target overseas Vietnamese affairs and citizen protection work, the State leader said.

Quang lauded the role of diplomats in protecting national interests, asking them to take heed to improving the quality of economic and cultural diplomacy as well as their capacity for strategic research forecast.

Besides personnel training, it is imperative to focus on boosting Party building and preventing degradation in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, as well as the phenomena of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation,” he stressed.

President Quang proposed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue its coordination with relevant ministries and agencies to work out specific solutions for building or restoring overseas Vietnamese representative offices as it is a matter pertaining to the country’s stature and prestige abroad.
