Mother calls for help for adoptive son
A woman in An Giang Province is calling for financial support to help treat her two-year-old adopted son who is struggling against cancer.
At first, Trang noticed the authorities and planned to give the boy to the local orphanage. She later decided to adopt the boy, Truong Huu Thang, since she didn't have a family of her own.
Thang was constantly sick at just a few days old. In July 2016, his condition worsened. He was nauseous and had diarrhoea. He was diagnosed with hematopoietic cancer and transferred to HCM City Oncology Hospital.
Unfortunately, Trang's business also took a turn for the worse during this time, forcing her to sell her house to pay her debts. Expensive medicines that are not covered by the insurance left them in deeper debts.
"I can't work since Thang was sick and need to go to the hospital regularly. I do odd jobs and when I have some money, I'll take Thang to hospital. We depend on charity meals and sleep on the hospital's hallways. I have to save as much money as I can," Trang said.
Thang's condition has improved but he still needs to take medicines and they don't have much money left.
"I always thought because of my bad luck that he also suffers now. I only hope that I'll still have my health to work," she said.
