Nearly 900 karaokes in Hanoi suspended for fire safety violations

Up to 892 karaoke bars in Hanoi have been temporarily suspended due to failing fire safety regulations.

According to the Hanoi’s Fire Prevention and Control Police Board, among those, Dong Anh District topped the list with 121 violators, followed by Phuc Tho District with 83, Soc Son District with 69 and Me Linh with 57, Hai Ba Trung District with 28, Hoan Kiem District with 12 and Ba Dinh District with six.

Last year, 353 karaoke bars in Hanoi were fined a total VND870 million (USD39,545) for fire safety violations. Meanwhile, hundreds of others have been suspended for the same reason.

A report by the Hanoi People’s Council showed that 188 apartment buildings and hotels in the city failed to meet fire safety standards. May de Ville and The Light in Hoan Kiem District and 13 hotels including Hanoi Hotel, Royal Gate and Delight in Ba Dinh District failed the tests.

The headquarters of agencies and hospitals have also infringed fire safety regulations, including Hanoi Taxation Department, Thanh Nhan Hospital and National Hospital of Ophthalmology.
