A USD318 million bridge linking Ha Long and Hai Phong cities in the northern region of Vietnam is scheduled to open to traffic on September 1.

The information was given by Quang Ninh province’s authorities at a press conference on August 28.

Bach Dang Bridge to be opened on September 1

The 5.4-kilometre-long Bach Dang Bridge connects Haiphong City’s Dong Hai 2 Ward and Ha Long City’s Lien Vi Commune.

Initially, vehicles will be allowed to travel at the speed of 80 kilometres per hour, with this later being raised to 100 kilometres per hour.

Bridge construction was started in January 2015 under the form of Build-Operation-Transfer (BOT).

The bridge along with the Ha Long-Haiphong Expressway which will be opened on the same day is expected to help boost the economy in the north and reduce the travel time by car from Hanoi to Hai Phong from 3.5 to 1.5 hours. The total distance from Ha Long to Hai Phong will be reduced from 75km to 25km.
