US ambassador offers condolences on death of state president

US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink today expressed his sincere condolences on the passing of Vietnam State President Tran Dai Quang.

“On behalf of the US Mission in Vietnam, I would like to express our sincere condolences on the passing of State President Tran Dai Quang. Our sympathies go out to his family and the people of Vietnam at this sad time,” Kritenbrink said.

The ambassador also added that “State President Tran Dai Quang was a friend of the US-Vietnam relationship. His hosting of President Trump’s visit to Hanoi in November 2017 helped advance the comprehensive partnership to new heights on the basis of mutual understanding, shared interests, and a common desire to promote peace, cooperation, prosperity, and security in the Indo-Pacific region.” 

“We honour his legacy and mourn his loss alongside his family and our friends, the people of Vietnam,” the ambassador said.

State President Tran Dai Quang passed away from a serious sickness this morning, September 21, at the age of 62.

He has served as State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam since April 2, 2016.
