PM holds talks with Japanese counterpart

In the atmosphere of mutual trust, the two PMs exchanged practical views; expressed their pleasure at the friendly relations and developments in all domains.

PM Phuc congratulated PM Abe who was re-elected as the head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and thanked the Japanese side for the warmly welcome for the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation.

On behalf of the Japanese Government and people, PM Abe expressed his deep sympathy over the passing of former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi and former State President Tran Dai Quang; hailing the positive contribution of the two leaders to the bilateral ties.

At the talks, they were unanimous in strengthening political trust by maintaining high-ranking visits and contacts; promoting cooperation in defence, security, human resource, technology transfer, network security, and experience sharing.

In terms of economics, they agreed to promote economic linkages in the spirit of mutual benefits; beef up cooperation in auxiliary industries, energy, high-tech farming, high-quality infrastructure; facilitate fruit exports; and speed up progress of cooperative projects. PM Phuc highlighted the necessity of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

PM Abe praised PM Phuc and the Vietnamese delegation for their participation in the Mekong-Japan Summi, stressing that the Japanese Government attaches importance to Viet Nam’s sustainable growth and pledges to strive for Viet Nam’s growth by promoting ODA projects and Japanese investment presence here. He agreed to support the Southeast Asian nation to build an e-Government; speed up the administrative reform; better labor productivity; build a favorable investment environment.

The two leaders hailed the launch of a legal assistance agreement on criminal matters and another agreement on the transfer of convicted persons; agreed to cooperate in healthcare, education as well as labor.

PM Phuc recommended Japan consider income and resident tax exemption for Vietnamese trainees and provide more favorable incentives for Vietnamese tourists.

Regarding regional and international issues, they pledged to shake hands for the success of the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit; nurture the ASEAN-Japan relations when Viet Nam serves as the coordinator of ASEAN-Japan relations in the 2018-2021 period. The two PMs underlined their determination to promote the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP); Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsular.

Concerning the East Sea, the two PMs also reiterated the importance of maintaining security, navigation and aviation safety, peaceful solutions to any dispute on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC); early complete a Code of Conduct for the East Sea in a practical, effective, and legally binding manner.

The two PMs also witnessed the signing of nine documents among ministries, agencies, and offices of the two countries.
