Every day, Huynh Thi My Nga, 60, in Tan My Commune, Tra On District, whose husband died some years ago, faces severe pains caused by cancer, but her family can’t afford the treatment, so she only stays at home.
Nga is struggling with the turmour for many years
According to Nga, ten years ago, she used to feel dizzy. Doctors said that she had a small tumour on her head, so she needed a surgery to avoid complications. After that, she spent all her family’s savings for the operations.
However, just one year later, the tumour resurfaced. She was then diagnosed with parotid gland cancer. A short time later, her husband died. At that time, her youngest son Truong Minh Vuong had to leave school to support the family. Meanwhile, her daughter Vuong Minh Thuyet, 27, suffered from mental problems.
Vuong said that every day he has to get up early to do the housework and support his mother and older sister before going to work. He earns only a modest income of VND150,000 per day which is not enough to cover medicines for his mother and daily expenses.
Nga’s face has been distorted by a tumour. She often has to buy a big bag of cotton for wiping the pus from the tumour. Her limbs have also withered.
She even thought of committing suicide to escape the pain, but she did not want her children to be shocked.
Ngo Vinh Tuan, vice chairman of Tan My People’s Committee, said that local authorities called on donations to help build a house for her. He hoped that donors could help ease the family’s difficulties.
