3.8 Richter scale earthquake causes scare in Ha Tinh

A 3.8 Richter scale earthquake which happened offshore the central province of Ha Tinh has affected some local coastal communes.

This morning, October 18, thousands of people in several communes of Ky Anh District, including Ky Khang, Ky Xuan, Ky Dong and Ky Phu, clearly felt two big shockwaves which then shook their houses.

       

The place where was affected by the earthquake 


Hoang Chinh, head of Ky Khang Commune’s police board, said that his house was shaken for 5-6 seconds, causing some ceiling fans to fall. He has not yet witnessed such an incident in the locality before.

The case scared many local residents who immediately tried to escape from the house to keep safe.

According to Institute of Geophysics, it was a 3.8 Richer scale earthquake which occurred off the coast of Ky Anh District that resulted in the shock waves and shook houses on the coast. The place where the earthquake was recorded is around five kilometres from the district.

Ky Anh District Communist Party of Vietnam Secretary Tran Dinh Gia said that no losses had been reported following the incident.
