According to the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), more than 12.8 million foreign tourists have chosen Vietnam as their destination over the last 10 months, up 22.4% year on year.

VNAT General Director Nguyen Van Tuan said Viet Nam aims to attract 15-16 million foreign arrivals in 2018. The fourth quarter is a peak season for foreign tourists, so if the current growth rate is sustained and there aren’t any sudden upheavals, the country will receive at least 15.7 million foreign vacationers this year.

To attract more foreigners in the coming months, the VNAT has organised a tourism promotion programme in Nanning and Shenzhen cities of China from October 22 to 27, he added. The VNAT said on October 26 that the country has welcomed over 1.2 million foreign visitors this month, rising 17.6% from a year earlier.

Of this, arrivals traveling by air increased 16.7% while those arriving by road and sea rose 62.5% and decreased by 2.3%, respectively.

Key markets saw sharp growth, especially the Republic of Korea (48.3%), Finland (33.3%), China (28.8%), and Denmark (16.4%). Over the past 10 months, the country served about 67.9 million domestic tourists with 33.1 million tourists staying overnight. Total tourism turnover reached an estimated VND505 trillion, up 20.99%.

With this impressive growth, Viet Nam will be likely to greet 15-16 million foreign tourists for 2018. China always tops the 10 markets, accounting for 38% of the total. Of this, tourists from Nanning make up the majority traveling to Viet Nam by road.

It is a key market in the national tourism development strategy by 2020, with a vision to 2030. Over the past years, the country created favorable conditions for Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to carry out travel activities.

The VNAT has coordinated with some agencies to launch a smart tourism portal at www.dulich.vtv.vn so as to provide comprehensive information about Viet Nam’s tourism and help users gain better travel experiences in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
