Large numbers of Vietnamese football fans are booking tours to Malaysia to watch the national team play in the final of the AFF Cup 2018 with Malaysia on December 11.

Vietnamese football fans fly to Philippines for the first-leg semi-final match on December 2

After Vietnam beat the Philippines in the semi-final, many tourism firms immediately released numerous programmes for fans who want to cheer for the national team in Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia. The one-day tour will cost VND10m (USD430) to VND15m which includes plane tickets, tickets to the match and accommodation.

Despite the high prices, fans are willing to fork out money to cheer for the team.

Bich Hue, representative of HanoiRedTour said, the number of customers booking tours to Malaysia increased by the hour after the match with the Philippines. Their hotlines were busy overnight and customers bought the tours immediately.

"We promoted tours to Malaysia even before the semi-final match started because we believe in our team. Those who booked tours that early could still withdraw deposited money when the match ended," she said.

The football tours will be more costly than regular tours because of limited flights. According to Hue, Hanoi-Malaysia tour will cost VND13,9m.

"We've sold half the seats overnight," she said.

Vietravel opens three tours to Malaysia from Hanoi, HCM City and Danang for 1,000 customers with Vietnam Airlines. The prices range from VND9.9m to VND14.5m. After the announcement was issued at 9.30 pm on December 6, they had sold 30% of the seats. Customers have to pay full prices first and will not get a refund if they cancel the tour.

Besides one-day tours, firms also rolled out two to three-day tours, combining sight-seeing and tickets to the match. The prices of those tours are higher, ranging from VND16.9m to VND18.9m. Customers will be given shirts or banners to cheer on the team.

Many people are willing to take a day off work.

Vietnam will play against Malaysia at Bukit Jalil Stadium on December 11. The second leg will be held at Hanoi's My Dinh Stadium on December 15.
