Northern region forecasted to see coldest days of the year

Northern Vietnam is forecasted to experience the strongest cold spell of this year in some days to come.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting, the northern and northern central regions’ delta areas will have the temperature of 8-11 degrees centigrade on December 29-30, while the temperature in many northern mountainous localities would fall to between 3 and 7 degrees centigrade.

Tran Quang Nang, head of the Short-term Meteorological Forecast Division under the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting, said that the whole northern region has been affected by the cold weather, but the temperature will further drop on December 29-30 along with rains.

Areas located at the height of over 1,500 metres such as O Quy Ho and Sapa would have frost.

The cold spell would last until January 3-4, Nang added, noting that this would be the strongest cold snap of this year.

The National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting reported that rains would hit the central region until January 3-4 with the highest rainfall on December 29-31.

Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and southern region would have light rains from 2-4 days to come.

Nang also warned strong winds and rough seas in the Gulf of Tokin and the north of the East Sea.

Hanoi could face temperatures of below 10 degrees centigrade on December 29-30.
