Vietnam sets the target of exporting 1.9 million tons of marine products by 2020, earning around US $8 billion, according to a draft planning scheme.

The planning scheme is expected to develop a sustainable aquaculture based on abundant input supply, market survey, and reliable demand forecasts.

By 2015, the country eyes to ship some 1.6 million tons of the commodity, or equivalent to US $6.5 billion.

To achieve the above targets, investment should be focused on upgrading technologies and building standard storage facilities. Mega aquaculture exchange facilities also need to be set up.

Processing lines must meet the requirements for environment protection, the draft scheme says.
Vietnamese aquaculture products have been present in over 160 countries. Vietnam is one of the top ten biggest exporters of the commodity, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam.

Last year, the country has 396 aquaculture export companies with the total capacity of 7,870 tons/day. Their export turnover increases by 4.3%/year.
