The forum provides opportunities for parliamentarians of the Asia-Pacific region to identify and discuss matters of common concern and to highlight them in a global context.

It also offers chances for the regional legislators to examine political, social and cultural developments resulting from economic growth and integration.

This year’s meeting, themed “Strengthening parliamentary partnership for peace, security and sustainable development”, reflects the development trend of international relations, parliamentary diplomacy and guides the forum’s discussions leading to a joint declaration that emphasize the commitments of all members to promote economic, cultural and regional cooperation for peace, security, and sustainable development, according to Heng Samrin.

The APPF was established on March 15, 1993, with the purpose of building trust among parliaments in the Asia-Pacific via the enhancement of dialogues between regional parliamentarians, thus contributing to regional peace, sustainability and prosperity.

APPF gathers 27 member parliaments.
