Passengers face mass delays after Tet

Many flights have been delayed as demands peaked after Tet.

At Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa Province, hundreds of passengers slept in the waiting area as flights were delayed on February 11.

A family said they had waited for the Jetstar Pacific's flight for five hours. Their flight was scheduled to take off at 8 pm so they arrived at the airport at 5 pm. However, their flight was pushed back to 12.30 am.

At 3 am on February 11, many people still lined up to pick up their luggage at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City. Even though taxi firms had increased thousands of cars waiting near the airport every day, they still couldn't meet demand.

Experts urged the speeding up of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport expansion plan.

According to the airlines, making the pilots fly around 15-30 minutes while waiting for a parking space has caused them millions of USD in losses. Some Hanoi-HCM City flights that should only take 1.30 hours actually lasted two hours or more.

During Tet Holiday, Tan Son Nhat Airport had 90 delays every day. There are 51 Vietjet Air flights, 20 Jetstar Pacific flights and 16 Vietnam Airlines flights.
