The US Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday announced Viet Nam complies with international safety standards and has been granted Category 1 rating under the agency’s International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program.

Viet Nam Airlines may be the first carrier to open direct flights to the US by the end of 2019

With this credit, Vietnamese air carriers can establish service to the United States and carry the code of the US carriers. At present, Viet Nam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Bamboo Airways established plans to open direct flights to the US, in which the first carrier planned to the pioneer by the end of this year.

According to a post on the website of the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport, the US Embassy in Ha Noi delivered a Category 1 rating from the Federal Aviation Administration to Viet Nam on Friday afternoon.

The announced Category 1 status is based on an August 2018 Federal Aviation Administration assessment of safety oversight provided by the Civil Aviation Administration of Viet Nam.

To maintain a Category 1 rating, a country needs to adhere to the safety standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the United Nations’ technical agency for aviation that establishes international standards and recommended practices for aircraft operations and maintenance.
