Northern region to face severe hot wave

The northern region of Vietnam has been forecasted to experience an extreme heat wave with temperatures of up to around 40 degrees centigrade.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the temperature in the region will start rising to around 35 degrees centigrade from tomorrow, April 18. The temperature will increase to 36-37 degrees centigrade on April 19-21.

Some northern localities have been predicted to experience 38-39 degrees centigrade and even up to 40 degrees centigrade on April 21.

Meanwhile, the central region would see the highest degree of 41 degrees centigrade in April.

The centre added that the average temperature for the whole country in May this year would be 0.5 - 1-degree centigrade higher than the same period of last year.

Next month, the hot weather would concentrate on northwestern localities.

Flash floods have also been warned for many localities in the northern region, particularly northwestern localities.

Meanwhile, some localities in south-central and Central Highlands regions would face droughts.
