Police in HCM City has busted a drug trafficking ring and seized a total 1.1 tonnes of methamphetamine in the biggest meth haul the force has ever seen.

According to the police, on April 12, they police noticed that a van and two trucks were parking illegally at Huynh Man Dat-Vo Van Kiet intersection via the traffic camera. The vehicles looked suspicious and there were signs that they were transporting banned goods.

After checking the vehicles, the police found out that the trucks were carrying many boxes and speaker cabinets that weigh unusually heavy. The drivers at the scene, Taiwanese nationals Yeh Ching Wei and Chiang Wei Chih, couldn't provide the required papers for the vehicles.

 

Suspicious vehicles in HCM City

The police later discovered that 606.02kg of methamphetamine was covered with tea packages and hidden inside the speaker cabinets.

The drivers admitted that they had been hired to carry the goods from Dong Nai Province to HCM City.

After more investigations, the police seized a total 1,110kg methamphetamine and 998.68 grams of ketamine. They also prosecuted Yeh Ching Wei, Chiang Wei Chih and a Vietnamese man, Bui Nguyen Huy Vu.
