The case occurred at around 3 am on Tuesday at Tan Huong-Vo Cong Ton T-junction in Tan Phu District, HCM City.

According to security cameras in the area, when a couple were driving from Tan Huong Street to Vo Cong Ton Street at a high speed, they suddenly crashed into the taxi, causing them to fall onto the ground where they laid motionless.

After that, the driver got out of the car, but ignoring them then just went away, leaving them behind in the critical condition.

The woman, Nguyen Thi My Tien, 25, from the southern province of Ben Tre died, meanwhile, the man is still in hospital receiving intensive treatment.

Lawyer Nguyen Duc Chanh, director of Law Firm DC Counsel, said that in case the driver is found with traffic violations that resulted in the accident, he would face a sentence of 3-10 years in prison.

When the accident was not his fault, he would be sentenced from two months to three years as he ignored the victims in critical condition.
