Vietnamese striker leaves for new challenge in Belgium
Vietnam national team striker Nguyen Cong Phuong left Vietnam this morning, July 12, to take on a new challenge at Sint-Truidense FC in Belgium.
Talking with the media, he said he was moved by the continuous support and best wishes from local football fans with this new challenge.
"I will try my best to see success in the Europe," Phuong stressed.
After arriving in Brussels, Phuong will be brought to a local hospital for his medical check-up before officially joining the new club.
The Sint-Truidense FC is expected to have two friendly matches with the Gent Club on July 13 and Lommel Club on July 18.
Phuong recently ended his contract early with South Korean club Incheon United. He only played eight matches for the club in four months and failed to score.
He admitted that he had failed at Japanese club Mito Hollyhock and South Korea’s Incheon United; but felt he’d learned much from his failures.
“I’ll try my best to correct my shortcomings while playing in Japan and South Korea to be successful in Belgium,” Phuong noted.
Sint-Truiden Club was purchased by Japanese company DMM.com in 2017. During the 2018-19 season, Sint-Truidense recruited five Japanese players and Cong Phuong is the sixth Asian player in the team.

Phuong departed from HCM City at 8.30 am, a week after signing a one-year deal with the Belgian club.
