The event was co-organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) under the Foreign Ministry, and the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).

Speaking at the course, Deputy Chairman of the COVA Luong Thanh Nghi emphasised that for nearly 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese people who are living and working in 109 countries and territories across the world, the Vietnamese language play a very important role in connecting the community, preserving the national cultural identities and keeping a close relationship with the homeland.

Through the course, participants had a chance to meet, exchange and share experiences together as well as with domestic relevant agencies on the situation of teaching and learning the mother tongue among the overseas Vietnamese community, he added.

Over recent years, many programmes of supporting textbooks, learning materials, facilities and equipment for teaching and learning have been implemented, improving the efficiency of teaching and learning.

Deputy Director of the Department of Continuing Education under the MoET Vu Thi Tu Anh said that the Ministry is developing regulations and organisation of examinations and assessment of the Vietnamese language for the overseas Vietnamese this year.
