Danang Department of Transport has proposed installing more signboards to prevent traffic accidents in Son Tra after four tourists died in the past seven months.

More signboards to be put up in Son Tra

Most roads in Son Tra Peninsula are steep with many turns.

The department suggested putting up more signs and speed reduction paint on the road. Landslide warning signs must be also put up at 19 vulnerable locations during the rainy season. It is estimated that the project may cost over VND1bn (USD43,000). The department suggested using the fund for transportation development in 2019.

In the long run, the department asked Danang People's Committee, Department of Tourism, and the authorities in Son Tra as well as the management boards of Danang beaches to quickly develop a plan to better manage the tourists in Son Tra, especially those that use motor vehicles.

The representative of the traffic police department suggested that the authorities should consider opening up a space for vehicles to park along the roads. However, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, they will have to use special-use forest land which requires prime ministerial permission.

Since early 2019, 12 traffic accidents have occurred in Son Tra Peninsula with four deaths and three injuries. Most of the victims were travelling by motorbikes.
