Based on the grandeur of colonial-era architecture, stunning scenery, or remote cultural immersion, the list tells travelers of the most charming towns that deliver big on romance, history and beauty.

Located on the central coast, Hoi An ancient town is a haven for photographers, foodies, and architecture lovers, according to the site.

It also praised its narrow streets, featuring rows and rows of charming mustard-hued merchant houses, thanks to its centuries as an important trade hub and as the most commercially vital town in Vietnam since the 16th century. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999.

Although many have since been transformed into low-key restaurants, bars, design boutiques, and tailor shops, it still provides lush foliage spills from the rooftops and, come evening, romantic silk lanterns light up the town.

The site also impresses with an array of delicious food regarded as a not-to-miss experience, from “banh mi” at the ever-popular Banh Mi Phuong to local staples like herb-covered rice rolls, white rose dumplings, and fresh seafood at Miss Ly’s Café.

Other towns on the list include Yufuin in Japan, George Town in Malaysia, Vigan in the Philippines, Luang Prabang in Laos, Kampot in Cambodia, Kota Gede in Indonesia, Galle in Sri Lanka, Zhouzhuang in China, Mawlynnong in India, Ghandruk in Nepal, Sai Kung in Hong Kong, and Phuket Old Town in Thailand.

Hoi An was recently named the best city in the world by the American travel site Travel + Leisure. To mark the announcement, it produced a video clip introducing the charming beauty of Hoi An to travel lovers.

The number of foreign visitors to Hoi An rose sharply in the first six months of this year, by 24 per cent, and 36.58 per cent last year to 2.5 million and 3.7 million, respectively, against the same period last year and in 2017, according to the latest figures of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
