Nguyen Xuan Sang, head of Vietnam Maritime Administration, said cranes had been arranged to collect containers floating on the river.

Authorities have used pontoons to prevent the leaked oil from spreading further.

Transport Minister Nguyen Van The urged urgent actions to deal with the problem and an investigation into the case.

The incident affected the traffic on Luong Tau River. To ensure safety, authorities have blocked the area where the vessel remains. Other ships have been instructed to take other ways for their journey.
