FIFA World Rankings: Vietnam back to world’s No. 97, among top 15 in Asia
The national senior squad climbed up two places to return to the 97th position in the latest FIFA Men's Rankings announced on October 24.
Vietnam beat Malaysia 1-0 and Indonesia 3-1, respectively, in Group G in the Asian Qualifiers second round for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 earlier this October, receiving an additional respective 7.63 and 6.81 points. In total, Vietnam accumulate 1,245 points and surpassed Jordan (1,236 points) to occupy the world’s 97th position.
Currently, after three games played in Group G, coach Park’s side are ranked 2nd equal on seven points with group leaders Thailand but with less goal difference compared to the “War Elephants.”
In November, the “Golden Stars” will have two consecutive home matches at Hanoi’s My Dinh national stadium, hosting visitors UAE (November 14) and Thailand (November 19). If Quang Hai and his teammates win, the Southeast Asian champions will continue to advance in the next FIFA World Rankings.
Also on Thursday, Park named a 27-member preliminary squad for the upcoming November’s ties against UAE and Thailand.
Elsewhere, the Philippines collected four more points after a goalless draw against China in their respective qualifier this month, climbing to No. 126 with 1,134 points to be the ASEAN No. 3. Malaysia keep their 158th position, while Myanmar drop two places to 147th, the same as Singapore at 159th.
Iran dropped four spots down to 27th but still retain their spot as the continent's top team. Japan climbed three positions up to 28th spot, followed by the Republic of Korea, who fell two rungs down to 39th. Australia's position remained unchanged at 44th, while Qatar were one of the biggest movers, surging five spots up to 57th to complete Asia's top five.
In the top 10 of the world, there is not much disturbance as Belgium are still leading, followed by France, Brazil, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia, Spain, Argentina and Colombia.
