The families of 39 victims who were found dead in a container truck in the UK have asked local authorities not to announce the names of their relatives.

The scene of the accident

On the evening of November 7, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security announced that all 39 victims found dead in a container truck in Essex, UK on October 23, were Vietnamese.

The Ministry of Public Security said the victims were from Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Thua Thien - Hue.

Speaking with local media on November 8, Ministry of Public Security Spokesman Major General To An Xo said that the ministry and other Vietnamese agencies are co-operating with authorities in the UK to bring the bodies of the victims home.

"Many families have asked us not to publish the name of their relatives because that was too sad for them," the official said. "And we have to respect their request. Therefore, we will not announce the identities of all 39 victims."

Xo also said that the transportation of the bodies home would also depend on the UK side and the families' wishes.

"Some families want to bring the bodies of their relatives home, others want to receive their ashes," he said.
