Poor couple calls for help for ill children
A couple in Hai Duong Province is in need of financial help to cover the medical treatment for their two children.
Hoang said, "We’ll starve to death if we stay home to look after the children. But since they are both ill, I can only send them to part-time daycare. Thien An keeps telling me his head hurts but we are unable to sell the watermelons so we don't have money to bring him to the hospital yet."
8-year-old Thien An was born a healthy baby. But at 3 years old, he suddenly vomited and suffered from headaches. Doctors at Vietnam National Hospital of Paediatrics said he had a brain tumour. Meanwhile, An's five-year-old sister suffers from Down Syndrome and heart disease.
An's leg muscles shrivelled so he is bounded to the wheelchair. His parents have sold everything they could think of including the fields and put up their house as collateral.
Thien An has an appointment with the doctors in the next few days but the family doesn't have enough money for his treatment.
"Will we be able to sell all of these watermelons and earn some hundreds of thousands of VND to take him to the hospital?" Hoang said.
