Dengue fever outbreak reported in Quang Nam

As of November 19, Quang Nam authorities have reported 9,091 dengue fever cases, an increase of 2.9 times compared to 2018.

Statistics from the Department of Health show that most of the patients are from Dien Ban Town with 1,815 cases, Hoi An City with 1,426 cases, Thang Binh District with 1,206 cases and Tam Ky City with 701 cases.

476 new cases were reported from November 11 to 17 alone.

There are 230 hot spots in Quang Nam, seven new ones appeared in the past week. Four of them are in Dien Ban Town.

Dr Nguyen Ngoc Vo Khoa from Quang Nam General Hospital said all of the beds were full as they had to treat 100 dengue fever patients. In the end, they had to place more beds along the hallways.

“The number of patients is three to four times higher than last year. We’ve done our best to help them. We’ve not had any fatalities,” he said.

Dr Pham Ngoc Hoa Binh from Minh Ky General Hospital said in the last two months, they had received 10-15 patients each day.

Nguyen Van Van, deputy director of the Department of Health said they had issued directives to localities authorities to carry out preventive measures against dengue fever, like sterilising the area and closely monitoring the situation.

The Department of Education and Training was also asked to work with local authorities to kill the mosquitoes.
