Nguyen Thi Hoa, the family’s neigbour, said that Linh’s mother still decided to get married to his father although she knew that he had been suffering from mental diseases since he was small.

Luckily, both Linh and his brother were born in good health, which was a motivation for the couple. Gradually, the father’s disease improved.

However, in 2015, Linh’s mother was diagnosed with leukemia which killed her just a short time after that. Since then, Linh’s father’s health condition turned worse with tuberculosis and diabetes.

The family burden has been put on Linh as she had to tried to work at a restaurant after the school time.

Linh attended a vocational training school with the hope that this could help her to find a job in the future. But, she had to drop her dream as she and her younger brother were also infected with tuberculosis from their father.

The children faces a gloomy future

The three people mostly lived on a modest subsidy from the government. They get free medicines from the ward’s medical centre.

Linh said that despite his mental problems, her father never behaved violently to his children. He died while sleeping, but the children did not know about this.

Le Thi Nguyet, head of the area where Linh’s family lives in, said that she asked the ward authorities for more assistance for the children.
