A British tourist has gone missing while swimming off the coast in the central province of Quang Nam on Sunday.

Chairman of Tam Thanh Communal People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Binh, announced on December 22 that Robin Justin William of British nationality went missing while swimming with a group of foreign tourists at a local beach at around 12.30pm the same day.

"The 50-year-old tourist was washed away by strong waves while swimming. We have sent rescue teams to look for the tourist," the official said, adding that rescue work is facing difficulties due to strong waves and cold weather.

It is said that the tourist group checked out from a hotel in Hoi An City in the morning and rode bikes to Tam Ky City. The accident occurred when they stopped at a beach in Hoa Ha Village, Tam Thanh Commune to swim.
