Quang Tri to have new airport
Vice chairman of Quang Tri People's Committee, Nguyen Quan Chinh, announced that they had conducted a field survey to start the construction of Quang Tri Airport Project at a meeting on the socio-economic situation in 2019 on December 26.
Quang Tri Airport will be put into operation in 2020-2030 period, covering 312ha. By 2030, Vietnam will have 28 airports. Quang Tri Airport is 93km away from Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh Province and about 88km away from Phu Bai Airport in Thua Thien-Hue Province.
Nguyen Quan Chinh, vice chairman of Quang Tri People's Committee, said the project's detailed planning was completed and they had gathered opinions from all ministries, departments and related agencies.
Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam proposed to build the airport in Gio Quang Commune which is 7km away from Dong Ha City. It will be a civil and military airport. The runway will be 2,400 metres long and 45 metres wide to be able to service A320 and A321 aircraft and similar ones. There will be four slots in the parking area. They will preserve a plot of land in case there is a need to build another taxiway.
The terminal is designed with a capacity to serve one million passengers a year. There is also preserved land in case of expansion. The estimated investment is over VND5.7trn which will come from the state budget, private sector, and other sources.
The project aims to further complete the transport system and boost socio-economic as well as tourism development in Quang Tri. It is hoped that the project will attract investments to key economic zones and spiritual tourists, exploiting the potential of Quang Tri which has a coastline of 75km.
