A male passenger on a VietJet flight has been fined for tearing the cover off a life jacket.

The incident happened on flight VJ407 from Hanoi to Dalat. While flight attendants were arranging seats and luggage, the passenger took the life jacket from under seat 29A and then tore the cover open.

The man was stopped before the life jacket was inflated. He was then fined VND2 million (USD86.95).

Life jackets are only used in emergency cases. Passengers are banned from taking them out of their cover and inflating them without the crew’s explicit permission.

On October 2, a woman on VietJet flight from Hanoi to Cam Ranh Airport in Khanh Hoa Province was also fined VND8.5 million for stealing a life jacket on the flight.

According to the government’s Decree 162 on aviation violations, people who steal or misappropriate minor equipment or assets can be fined VND7-10 million (USD304.34-434.78).
