Police warn of finance funding for Hanoi protestors

The Ministry of Public Security has blocked several bank accounts owned by some protestors involving in the Hanoi airport land reclamation dispute claiming that have received supporting funding from organisations and individuals in and out the country.



Weapons used by the protestors to attack the authorities in Dong Tam Commune

An article published on the ministry's website said that the Hanoi Police Investigation Agency on January 13 prosecuted and temporarily detained 19 persons accused of murder in the incident at Dong Tam commune in My Duc District.

The investigation police agency also issued decisions to arrest and prosecute seven others for murder, illegally storing and using weapons, and attacking on-duty officials.

The Ministry announced on January 17 that through on-going investigation into the murder, illegally storing and using weapons, and attacking on-duty officials in Dong Tam Commune, the Investigation Police Office under the Hanoi Municipal Police Department found that some individuals and organisations from in and outside Vietnam had sent money to support the protestors.

The Investigation Police Office has asked credit institutions in and outside Vietnam to co-operate with the Vietnamese police to block the bank accounts related with the case.

One of the bank accounts that have been blocked is account No.0611001987139 opened at the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, under the name Nguyen Thuy Hanh.

The Ministry also warned individuals and organisations not to send money to bank accounts owned by the protestors and inform of their calling for funding to local authorities.
