A fierce cold snap is forecast to hit the nation’s northern and northcentral regions from January 25, on the first day of the first lunar month, according to reports by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting.

It is anticipated that areas throughout the north, including Hanoi, will have to endure periods of rain beginning from the evening of January 24, or the 30th day of the last lunar month.

Temperatures are expected to drop to between 15 degrees and 18 degrees centigrade, with mountainous areas to see temperatures plummet to between 11 degrees and 14 degrees centigrade.

In addition, the cold spell is also expected to affect northern central and central regions, including both Thanh Hoa and Thua Thien-Hue provinces, which are predicted to face heavy rainfall which will hit on January 25.

It is forecast that the highest temperatures will be between 18 degrees centigrade and 20 degrees centigrade, with lows from 11 degrees centigrade to 14 degrees centigrade.

This bout of cold and wet weather is forecast to last until January 29, or the fifth day of the first lunar month.
At present, the Central Highlands and southern region are both currently in the midst of the dry season. As a result, it is expected that conditions will likely be sunny with temperatures ranging from 28 degrees to 31 degrees centigrade in the Central Highlands and 32 degrees to 35 degrees centigrade in the southern region, including Ho Chi Minh City.
