Authorities of Khanh Hoa Province and Danang City in central Vietnam have requested the suspension of Chinese tourism amid the rapid spread of the Coronavirus.

According to the local departments of tourism, the halt was applied from today, January 28.

Travel firms in Khanh Hoa were serving Chinese visitors who had come to the province before January 27.

Tourists in Khanh Hoa

The Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism reported that Nha Trang City welcomed tourists, including 56,000 foreigners with the majority from Russia, China, South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia. Of the figure, Chinese accounted for more than 29,000, up 2% on-year.

The province served 3.6 million foreign tourists last year, including up to 2.5 million from China, accounting for around 70%.

Now, all visitors to Khanh Hoa by air have their temperatures checked.

Meanwhile, Truong Thi Hong Hanh, director of Danang Department of Tourism, roughly 355,000 tourists come to Danang on the Tet Holiday, up 2% on-year. However, the number of people who stay overnight in the city dropped 15-20% partially due to worries over the Coronavirus infection.

Hanh added that the city will boost tourism promotion to attract visitors from many other markets such as Japan, Russia and India.

Dao Trong Tung, head of Khanh Hoa’s travel agent association which specialises in getting Chinese visitors to visit the province said that despite the bad impact on provincial tourism revenue, he advocated the suspension of Chinese tourism to help curb the spread of the disease.
