Two boats sink off Ca Mau

The boat with five fishermen was working six nautical miles off Ca Mau Province when it encountered high and strong waves. The waves damaged the boat and flooded it. One fisherman was swept ashore but four others are still missing.

The boat was owned and led by captain Tran Thanh Viet from Binh Thuan Province. Viet sent an SOS signal before the boat sank. He is also missing.

At 4 pm on the same day, 50-year-old Nguyen Van Tri and his son, Nguyen Thanh Cong, were returning home from Hon Chuoi Island when their boat was also capsized by strong waves. Cong was saved by a nearby boat but Tri remains missing.

The Vietnam Coastal Communications System quickly notified the vessels operating in that area to keep an eye out for the missing fishermen. A report was also sent to the authorities to ask for help. The system will continue monitoring and updating the situation.
